Slow Sony Bravia: how to make it fast again

Sony Bravia TVs have run Android TV for years, the newer ones Google TV. The picture is excellent, but after a while the menu responds slowly. That is mainly due to what runs on the TV alongside your own apps.

Why a Bravia gets slow

• The standard home screen loads recommendations and images from services.
• Streaming apps and preinstalled apps keep running in the background.
• Updates and caches fill the storage (see Storage full on your TV).
• The TV has plenty of processing power for the picture, but memory is limited for everything that runs at the same time.

Turning on the developer options on a Bravia

1. Press the Home button and choose Settings.
2. Choose Device Preferences and then About.
3. Go to Build and press OK 7 times. You will see "You are now a developer".
4. Go back to Device Preferences, choose Developer options and turn on USB debugging.

What VYS TV does

Your Bravia's IP address

The app finds the TV on your network by itself. If it does not, you enter the IP address: go to Settings and then Network & Internet (or Network), choose the connected network, or Advanced settings and then Network status, and read the IP address.
