Enable developer options on your TV
To set up your TV from your iPhone, the TV needs developer options and USB debugging turned on once. It takes a few minutes with the remote control at hand. The menus differ per brand.
TCL and other Google TVs
- Press the Home button and go to the gear Settings (top right).
- Choose System and then About.
- Go to Android TV OS build and press OK 7 times. You will see "You are now a developer".
- Go back to Settings, choose System and then Developer options (at the bottom).
- Turn on USB debugging and confirm with OK.
Sony Bravia
- Press the Home button and choose Settings.
- Choose Device Preferences and then About.
- Go to Build and press OK 7 times. You will see "You are now a developer".
- Go back to Device Preferences and choose Developer options.
- Turn on USB debugging and confirm with OK.
Philips Android TV
- Press the gear (Settings) and choose All settings.
- Choose Android settings, then About (under Device).
- Go to Build and press OK 7 times. You will see "You are now a developer".
- Go back to Android settings and choose Developer options (under Preferences).
- Turn on USB debugging and confirm with OK.
Another brand
- Open Settings on the TV.
- Find About or Info (often under System or Device Preferences).
- Press Build (or Android TV OS build) 7 times.
- Open Developer options (under System or Device Preferences) and turn on USB debugging.
Do you also see "Network debugging" or "ADB over network"? Turn that on too. If the TV asks for a PIN, that is the PIN of your TV or your Google account. If you see "You are already a developer", the options are already on.
Then: connecting and the IP address
Put your iPhone on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV and open VYS TV. The app finds the TV itself. If that does not work, enter the IP address: you find it under Settings, Network & Internet (Philips: Wireless and networks, View network settings), at the network the TV is connected to.
On the first connection the TV asks whether to allow USB debugging. Tick Always allow from this computer and choose OK. After that the app connects without that question. See also How it works.
VYS TV does this for you
The app on your iPhone makes your Android TV or Google TV faster, with only your own apps, and restores everything if you want.
Questions
Is USB debugging safe?
Only a device you allow on the TV can connect. Without your OK on the TV screen nobody gets in, and VYS TV only works from your own network.
Can I turn it off again later?
Yes, turn off USB debugging in the developer options. The app can then no longer set up or control the TV; what is already set up stays.
I do not see Developer options
They only appear after you have pressed Build 7 times. Press calmly, and check whether the TV asks for a PIN.
