Remove recommendations on a Sony Bravia
A Sony Bravia has Android TV or, on newer models, Google TV. In both cases the home screen fills up with recommendations and featured films.
What VYS TV turns off on a Bravia
- The Android TV or Google TV home screen, replaced by the VYS TV home screen.
- Play Movies, Play Games and Play Music, if you do not use them.
- Streaming apps running silently in the background to fill the home screen.
After optimising everything is turned off, not removed: with Back to original it is back with a single tap.
What remains
To be fair: ads inside a streaming app, such as ads before or during a film on a plan with ads, come from that app itself. VYS TV does not remove those. This is about the home screen and everything the TV itself shows around it.
How to start
- Turn on the developer options and USB debugging on the TV; the app shows where for each brand (see Enable developer options on your TV).
- Connect the VYS TV app on your iPhone to the TV via Wi-Fi.
- Tap Optimise TV speed.
- Arrange your home screen: rows, your own texts and a background photo.
Going back to the old home screen is a single tap; the backup of the original is always kept.
VYS TV does this for you
The app on your iPhone makes your Android TV or Google TV faster, with only your own apps, and restores everything if you want.
Questions
Does this work on a Bravia with Google TV?
Yes. The steps for the developer options then follow Google TV (System, About, Android TV OS build).
Does the Bravia get faster?
Yes, a light home screen and fewer apps in the background make the menu faster (see Slow Sony Bravia: how to make it fast again).
Can I undo it?
Yes, with a single tap: Back to original.
