How to

Your iPhone as a remote for your Android TV

Lost the remote, or typing a long password with the arrow keys? With the VYS TV app your iPhone is a complete remote for your Android TV or Google TV.

What you can do

  • All keys: power, source, numbers, the four colour keys, arrows and OK, back, home, menu, settings, volume, mute, channel, play and pause, stop, rewind, fast forward, info and subtitles.
  • Type text: type on your iPhone and the text appears in the selected field on the TV, for example a search field or a password.
  • Screenshot: capture what the TV shows and save it to Photos. Protected video stays black.

Directly via Wi-Fi

Above the remote you see how the keys travel. With Directly via Wi-Fi they go straight from your iPhone to the TV: that is the fastest. If it says Via the server, tap Turn on fast control and choose Always allow and Allow on the TV. After that the keys go directly.

What you need

In the app, tap Remote under My TVs to go straight to the remote of that TV.

Controlling from a computer

The TV's page (the address and code are at the bottom of the home screen) also has a remote. On a Philips TV you pair the fast control (JointSpace) there once: the TV shows a code that you enter on the page. On a computer the arrow keys also work, Enter for OK, Backspace for back and H for home, as long as you are not typing in a text field.

VYS TV does this for you

The app on your iPhone makes your Android TV or Google TV faster, with only your own apps, and restores everything if you want.

Questions

Does the remote also work outside my home?

No. Your iPhone must be on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.

Can I turn the TV on with it?

The power key puts the TV into and out of standby. Whether a TV that is completely off turns on via the network depends on the model and the TV's settings.

Why is my screenshot black?

Protected video, such as a film playing in a streaming app, may not be captured. The rest of the screen works normally.
